Opening a new location for your business is incredibly exciting, as this signifies that your company is doing well and growing. When you open your new location, you'll likely host a Grand Opening event, like a ribbon cutting or other similar ceremony. Even if you don't throw a big party, you'll still want to thank the people who have helped your company get to where it is today.

This is the perfect time to recognize those who have contributed to your organization's success. You can include business partners, major shareholders, sponsors, top customers and others who are integral to your company's ability to thrive. A custom award is a great way to thank these important people for their contributions and encourage them to stick with you into the future.

Choosing the Award

The award, plaque, trophy or other gift items you choose should be representative of your organization. For example, if your company manufactures and sells telescopes, you could choose an award in the shape of a star. Likewise, a business that makes elegant, refined furniture could select a classic wooden plaque. Try to pick something that has some relevance to your business to make the award feel more personal. If you are stumped for ideas, you can never go wrong with a beautiful crystal award engraved with the recipient's name.

Selecting the Wording for Custom Engraving

One of the best things about custom awards is that you can tailor them to each recipient, making each person feel even more special and appreciated. Each award should include the following:

  • Name of the Recipient - This could be an individual's name or the name of another organization. Be sure to check and double-check the spelling. There's nothing worse than receiving an award, only to discover that your name is spelled incorrectly. Depending on the recipient, you may wish to include their job title as well if it is relevant to the award.
  • Date - For a Grand Opening, you may wish to include the month, day and year to commemorate the specific date. It would also be acceptable to include just the month and year, or even just the year if you prefer. The variation you choose may also depend on the amount of available space on the award after including other important information.
  • Title of the Award - In the case of opening a new location for your business, you don't really need a formal title for your award as you might for other occasions. You simply want to include language that denotes the event to help your recipients remember it. You could say something like, "[Company Name]'s New Store Opening," or "Now 13 Locations Strong," or anything else to that effect.
  • Reason for the Award - You'll want your recipients to know why they are receiving the award in the first place. For business partners, you could say something like, "In appreciation of all your hard work." For an outside sponsor, the award might read, "Thanks so much for your support." It doesn't need to be lengthy, as your space will likely be limited; be direct and to-the-point in conveying your gratitude.
  • Name of Your Company - Don't forget to include the name of your organization somewhere on the award. You want the award to remind the recipient of your organization without them having to think back to remember.
